Blink Twice 2024

Blink Twice Movie Review: The Island of Magic Mike

BLINK TWICE (2024)

Let me start off by saying I was excited to watch this one. Debauchery in luxuriousness. Who could ask for anything more. So what that the quick cuts and over the top use of the colour red became a tad distracting. Something bad was happening on that island and I was not going to blink (sorry), not even if Chay-Tay came knocking (that’s Channing Tatum for those of you who don’t know). Salute to writer-director Zoë Kravitz.

However, the second half is a mixed bag of violence (good), and a stomach-turning revelation that leads to a you-go-girl fight against the man that is supposed to be…funny? I really don’t know, but I know it left me feeling a little grossed out. Not the violence, but the tone. Kudos to all involved for trying to push the envelope, but I can’t help but suspect that this exploitative experiment is supposed to be good because Kravitz is a woman.

WATCH OR NOT: WATCH

Additional musings:

It’s interesting, but a feminists’ Get Out it is not.
