FIGHT OR FLIGHT (2025)
Fight or Flight is a straight ahead action comedy, or for those of you who (like me) indulge in these types of films whenever I can, it’s basically John Wick (2014) on a Bullet Train (2022), save for the fact that its lead Josh Hartnett brings extra charisma, all the while nailing the comedic tone with aplomb. It’s quick, violent, sarcastic, everything I want in a mid-week watch, unfortunately the clever script is undermined by weak deliveries (and/or editing choices) by the supporting cast and although it aims to reveal its twists and turns mere moments before we see them, we see them coming all the same. Still, these are but shortcomings in an otherwise fun film (albeit transiently) and a testament to Harnett, who brings his clown to every frame, especially when fighting under exceedingly difficult situations and influences, all while within the confines of a plane; and cinematographer Matt Flannery of The Raid (2011) and fight choreographer Brahim Chab of Monkey Man (2024) bring the chaos and innovation to each battle. And so what we have is a good take-off, an enjoyable flight and a film that was well on its way to being recommended, only to end with a bounced landing.
WATCH OR NOT: NOT
Additional musings: Wrath of Man (2021), Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre (2023), Oppenheimer (2023), Trap (2024)…Harnett is on quite a resurgence as of late and he’s picking some quality roles and films.
